Footprints of the San is a thematic cultural tourism route guided by the San. Participants’ journey back in time to experience a glimpse of what traditional life was like for the oldest inhabitants of the world. The route is completely unique in all of South Africa and connects the Cultural Villages of the !Xun and Khwe at Platfontein near Kimberley, and the //Uruke San Bush Camp Adventures in the Kalahari. Each of these tourism experiences are community based, sustainable tourism initiatives with a strong focus on the culture of the San people. The Cultural Villages and Bush camp provide the anchor locations for Footprints of the San route. In time the route will be extended to provide you with more opportunities to follow the footprints and explore other interesting sites and places in the Northern Cape Province and throughout South Africa. The goal of the route is to provide a way for the San to share their beautiful and ancient culture with the greater world, while at the same time generating income within the communities and preserving the skills, mythology, customs and traditions of the past. |
